2009 Q&A

|
|
Q |
I know being “tight” or “loose” is a bad thing,
but for tracks like the Brickyard or the road
courses, is it beneficial to be a little “loose”
to say do a little more drift racing rather than
wear down the front right tire?
Joshua Kotula,
Chicago, Ill. |
|
A |
Usually a little loose is faster than a little
tight at about every track. Cars that are tight abuse the right front tire and
have a hard time passing in “dirty” air.

Q |
Hi Drew I was wondering if Matt is a talker on
the radio, or is he the quiet kind of driver?
And does the crew sleep in the trailer?
Clifton
McPherson, Naples, Italy |
|
A |
Matt is pretty quiet. No, we sleep in hotels.

Q |
Do you ever seek advice from your great
father-in-law, Ron Hornaday? He must have tons
of good advice for you.
Margaret Freling, Savannah, N.Y. |
|
A |
Actually, Ron and I rarely talk about our
racing. We are usually the first to call each
other after a win, but it ends there. It is
better for home life for both of us to leave
work at work.

Q |
Hi Drew! There has been a lot of talk about
teams like Hendrick having better equipment. As
a crew chief, do you think there is any truth to
that or do you ever stop to wonder what exactly
are those Hendrick boys doing with those
engines? Hope things get better for you guys!
Keep digging!

A |
At Roush-Fenway we are given everything we need
to win races. We have the tools and people to
build or make anything we so or want to try. So
I wouldn’t think anyone has “better” equipment,
but they might be using their equipment in a
better way right now.
