2009 Q&A

|
|
Q |
I want to be a NASCAR engineer or mechanic but
NTI offers little to no plain NASCAR training
and doesn’t require high school graduation. Is
there something better?
Alex Woodsmall,
Greenfield, Ind. |
|
A |
To be an engineer on a NASCAR team, you will
need to have mechanical engineering degree from 4-year college/university. There
is a NASCAR Tech school in Mooresville, N.C. that can help with becoming a
mechanic.

Q |
Hey Drew, I was wondering have you ever done in
any racing at all or have you been more of just
the technical guy?
Lacy Hill,
Moses Lake, Wash. |
|
A |
I drove dirt modifieds a little back in Illinois
before coming to North Carolina. I bought my own
cars and got help from my uncle working on them.

Q |
I noticed after a race is over, the crew packs
up the war wagon, covers it, and leaves it on
pit road. If the team doesn't transport them to
and from the race track, who does?
Corey Hays, Eau Claire, Wis. |
|
A |
There is a company that transports the war
wagons for the teams. There is not enough room
in our trailers for all the things we need for a
weekend.

Q |
The Nationwide series will be switching to the
COT in the near future. Will Cup teams be able
to use that series as a test bed?
Roger Flett, Riverview, New
Brunswick |
|
A |
Not really. The Nationwide car will have a
little different body and different rules.
|
|
|
Q |
Outside of racing, what are some of your hobbies
or interests?
Jonathan Raia, Mineola, N.Y. |
|
A |
My little boy is 7 and races quarter midgets on
Tuesday nights so that is fun. I am also getting
into hunting and going to Texas this winter for
a trip.
