2009 Q&A

|
|
Q |
A few weeks back at Pocono when you guys were
pushing the cars back after the race got called
on Sunday, a NASCAR official was “reminding” all
the teams to only push forward of the “C” post.
Could pushing the car from the rear cause
aerodynamic alterations that could be
advantageous for the race? Thanks!
James Adams,
Port Reading, N.J. |
|
A |
Pushing from the C-post forward has been a
standard since we ran the older car with a spoiler. But yes, they do that
because you could easily change the wing angle while pushing back there.

Q |
I would like to know who inspects the
inspectors? The winning car at some races seems
to have an advantage/got the call from NASCAR.
Rick Rossier,
Plover, Wis. |
|
A |
The inspectors have the final say. You can go to
John Darby or the inspectors’ supervisor to
discuss issues or disagreements, but there
decisions stand.

Q |
Drew I did the Petty ride-a-long at Bristol. It
was hard to keep track which corner we were in.
How does Matt keep track of his location on a
short track?
Jerry Kennedy, Decatur, Ill. |
|
A |
I would think years of experience helps Matt
keep track, but Bristol is probably the most
extreme since there is stands all around and the
corner entries and exits are the same at both
ends.

|
Q |
I read that you borrowed the 16’s setup for
Bristol. Did you learn anything to improve
performance going into the chase?
Eric Barenz, Mentor, Ohio |
|
A |
We didn’t really borrow their set up. We
struggled in Happy Hour so we looked at the
springs and shocks they had in their car and
could run simulation to compare that to ours.
Chip then made the adjustments to get our
balance like theirs. Bristol is so unique that a
combination that runs well there probably won’t
work anywhere else we go to.

Q |
Hey Drew. I was wondering, do you think you will
win another race again this season? And what has
been your best car setup since the two wins
earlier? Thanks and good luck!
Tyler Haberman, Fairbank, Iowa |
|
A |
I hope so. We go to the track every week trying
to win and thinking we can. Texas was a good
race for us. We had a shot to win that race.
