2009 Q&A

|
|
Q |
Does Roush use any special software to track the
setups/changes and their results? I’ve heard you
guys refer to “notes” from a previous race at
the same track, but does all that data ever get
plugged into a laptop?
John Wright,
Milwaukee, Wis. |
|
A |
We use special software at the track to enter
our changes and the drivers’ comments during practice. It allows the other Roush
teams see the runlogs from each other.

|
|
Q |
Will any of the Killer Bees be going to other
Roush teams during the Chase to boost their weak
areas?
Mark Parish,
Malvern, Ark. |
|
A |
No. The 17 is staying together.
|
|
|
Q |
Drew, do all the teams use the same
transmission? Does Ford use the T10 top loader?
Do the Chevy teams use the SM422 rock crusher?
What transmissions do the Dodge and Toyota teams
use?
Chris Jones, Spanish Fork, Utah |
|
A |
No, transmissions aren’t specific to the
manufacturer but are chosen by the teams. We
don’t use the T10 but we use a popular top
loader tranny that Hendrick and other teams use
as well.

Q |
Hi Drew. We were in the NHMS garage on Sunday
morning, and we noticed that after the teams
warmed up their engines, the deck lid would be
opened and smoke would come out of the “trunk.”
Where is the smoke coming from?
Roger Flett, Riverview, New
Brunswick |
|
A |
The smoke is from the overflow catch-can from
the oil tank. There is a line that comes from
the top of the tank into the trunk to a
catch-can. The catch can has vents on the top
that will smoke a little when the car is run.

Q |
When you change the sponsor for your car next
year, how do you keep a chassis and change the
paint schemes? Is it a peel-off thing or is it
painted and get sandblasted off?
Jim Schwery, Logan, Iowa |
|
A |
Whether we change paint schemes or not, we
media-blast all cars and chassis and start fresh
so we don’t just keep adding paint over paint
and making the bodies and chassis heavier and
heavier.
