2010 Q&A

|
 |
Why does NASCAR have you at 142 points in the
standings? You got five bonus points for leading
a lap at Daytona, didn’t you? I just want them
to give you what is rightly yours.
Shirley
Wheeler, Harrison, Ark. |
 |
I was just at the NASCAR R&D center asking John
Darby that same question. I took him the print out from our timing and scoring
computer that is on our pit box to show we led the lap. They are looking into
it.

Will the FR9 be your primary engine for the
Roush-Yates team this year, or are they still in
testing mode?
Jim Schwery,
Logan, Iowa |
 |
The 452 [old] engine will be the engine we will
use for the first part of the year.
|
|
 |
Were you pleased with the performance of the new
FR9 engine? Are there plans to run it at the
upcoming tracks like California and Las Vegas?
Gael Brooks, Tucson, Ariz. |
 |
We were pleased with the FR9, but there are
currently no plans to run it at other places
yet.

Drew when you give numbers to Matt like, “leader
is 69 you are 56,” what do the numbers mean?
Donna Chase,
Springfield, Ill. |
 |
Those are the lap times. If we ran a 30.56 and
the leader a 30.75, I would tell him “56 and the
leader is a 75.” This lets Matt know how we
compare to the leader and if his line that lap
was better or worse than the one before.

I was listening to the scanner during the
Daytona 500 and heard you or Matt say something
about taking “some of the rubber out.” Can you
tell me what that means and how it could impact
the performance of your car?
Shirley McMillan, Missouri |
 |
We took a spring rubber out of the right rear
spring. The rubber makes the spring think it is
stiffer. It is used to add adjustability to that
spring during the race.
