Q |
Matt, did you ever
race on dirt tracks? I love racing and boys in
my class think I can’t race because I’m a girl!
Payton Massey, Pellston, Mich. |
Past Q&A

 |
|
A |
The only dirt track
I’ve raced is Eldora. I grew up on asphalt short
tracks. I really have no dirt track experience.
I enjoy running the Prelude at Eldora every
year, it is a challenge, and I learn a lot.
Don’t let the boys in your class get to you!

Q |
Matt, currently you
are in almost the same points position that you
were in 2005 when you made one of the greatest
recoveries to make the chase. Do you feel you
and your team are strong enough to have history
repeat itself this year and make the chase once
again?
Scott Heenan, Neenah, Wis. |
|
A |
Well today I don’t
feel that way, but things can turn around at any
given moment for sure. I feel good about the
performance of my teammates, so I know the stuff
is there, we just have to get ours running
better. Other than that, anything that can go
wrong pretty much has, so I hope our luck will
turn soon.

Q |
It looks like there’s another talented Kenseth
racing on the short tracks of southern
Wisconsin. Has Jack got his eye on him?
Greg Holzhausen, Summerville,
S.C. |
|
A |
Jack and I were just
talking about Ross last night actually, but
really just about how he’s doing, how much he
enjoys it, etc. Right now Ross loves driving
that late model car. He’s having a lot of fun
and is learning a lot. I see you’re from
Summerville, S.C. I ran a late model there in
1996, very interesting short track!

Q |
Matt, I’ve been
racing limited modified for a few years now and
have had limited success on a very limited
budget. Do you have any tips on how I can keep
working towards my goals of being a top
contender? In what ways can I obtain financial
assistance so that I can continue (aside from
the small local sponsors)?
Chris Grothe, Schaller, Iowa |
|
A |
That’s a great
question that I think all of us who’ve raced
short tracks want answered. It’s tough. I would
say to pursue local sponsors, and run whatever
class you can afford to bring the best stuff to.

Q |
Why at the plate
tracks this year has the #17 on the roof of the
car been that bright orange color as opposed to
the typical black?
Kevin Kletti, Germantown, Wis. |
|
A |
In plate racing, you
are three and four wide often and its tough to
pick out the cars at times. Our spotter, Bob
Jeffrey, is getting old and the orange number
helps him pick out the car, especially on the
backstretch.
