Q |
Do have a favorite
restaurant that you just have to go to
when you’re in town for an event, and what is
your favorite meal at that particular place?
Scott Herpst, Rossville, Ga. |
Past Q&A

|
A |
The first one that
comes to mind is Scoma’s in San Francisco.
It’s about an hour’s drive from Sears Point. My
favorite dish there is called something like
“Scoma’s most famous dish!” I only get there
once a year, and always look forward to it.

Q |
Matt, why can’t the
color of the spoilers on the COT match the color
of the cars? A yellow spoiler would look good on
the 17 car.
Michael Walter, Pensacola,
Fla. |
|
A |
NASCAR owns the wings
and they pass them out as you go through tech.
They are random; you don’t get the same one
every week, so nobody can think there’s any kind
of advantage of a better or worse wing. NASCAR
actually owns the wings and takes them back
after race, therefore they are all the same
color and look the same.

Q |
Do you have a fitness routine? Running, weights,
cardio, etc.? Health eating? Or does driving the
#17 keep you fit enough?
Derek (OZZIE) Timbrell, Sydney,
Australia |
|
A |
I don’t really have a
fitness routine. I exercise once in a while, but
I do try to watch what I eat, get plenty of
rest, and drink a lot of Gatorade on race
weekends.

Q |
How do you decide
which cars go to each race, and which cars are
picked as back-ups? I am guessing that you have
a number of cars in inventory and now with the
COT, there are no specific cars for specific
tracks? Thank you!
Mike Szydlowski, Rochester, Mich. |
|
A |
The new cars are all
very similar, so it’s mostly dictated by which
cars are done and ready to go to track. These
cars are much more work. There are such small
tolerances in the templates; if they get even
minor damage, it takes a while to get them
repaired.

Q |
Hello Matt, on the
last pit stop in the 600, how short were you on
gas, and did you ever think about gambling?
Clint Haight, Cedar Rapids, Iowa |
|
A |
We didn’t pit on the
very last caution, so we were about 10 laps
short. I did think about gambling, but Chip and
the guys didn’t feel like we were close enough
to try even if we had topped off on the last
caution. Carl ran out on last lap, so we
probably wouldn’t have made it either.
