Q |
Matt, you’ve been
racing for a long time and have shown flashes of
running good on the road courses. Have you spent
any time practicing on a road course since last
season?

A |
We went to Road
Atlanta a couple weeks ago to run some laps, but
that’s about it.

Hey Matt, two
questions: Do you have any water or sports drink
in the car while you drive, or are the pit stops
the only chance you get to drink. Also, what
kind of diet do you have on race day to stay
hydrated?
Kevin Johnson, Keokuk, Iowa |

A |
I have a Gatorade
In-car Drinking System that I, along with a
couple other drivers, helped Gatorade develop a
couple years back. It’s piped right into my
helmet and works really well. I can have ice
cold Gatorade on demand under green or yellow. I
don’t have a real special diet for race day. I
usually eat a lot of carbs the night before, get
good rest, and drink a lot of Gatorade.

Q |
Matt, I have a technical question. When more
than one car is sent to the back of the field
(before or during the race), how do they decide
what order those cars line up in? Thanks!

They arm wrestle the
night before!!! ha ha. That’s a good question.
When I’m in that spot I try to be the first to
drop to the rear. I don’t think there’s a set
order. Really, if you’re going to the back
there’s not much difference if you start 41st or
43rd.

Q |
My question is,
after driving in so many races over the years,
does it feel like you’re actually doing 200
m.p.h.?

A |
It does when you hit
something!!!!!!

Q |
I was wondering if
you have a nice Roush Mustang that you drive
when you come home? I was driving next to a blue
one but could not tell if it was you because of
the window tint, But I’m guessing it was you...
If so, nice car Matt!

It wasn’t me. I do
have a 2002 Roush Stage 3 Mustang in N.C. that I
drive occasionally. [Editor’s note: Matt’s
dad recently picked up his new Mustang — a
2008 Shelby GT500KR. So if you’re in the
Cambridge area, keep an eye out.]
