Q Congratulations on a great finish at Daytona! I was listening to your scanner. When you pitted and your set-up went bad mid-race, the changes seemed small yet you lost all your handling. Why was that? Bad tires?
Kerry Sutton, New Berlin, Wis.

A I don’t know that we ever figured that out. The car, in the limited practice we had, was very sensitive to changes. It was tough to find the right balance. I’ve never had to change that much on a car for handling on a plate track before. It was a challenge for sure.

Q What do you do on the weekdays when you don’t have a race?
Joey Betzel, Bettendorf, Iowa
A Depends on the week. Some weeks I get some time to hang out at home and not do much. Other weeks we are busy testing and or doing sponsor appearances. When I’m at home I also try to get to the shop, spend a few hours over there, and keep up with what we have going on there as well.

Q

Do you play any musical instruments or Guitar Hero?
Charmaine Huey, Nashville, Tenn.

A No, but I like to sing along to the stereo in the car, when I don’t have passengers!

Q How does it help to “lay back” on a restart? Don’t you want to be closer to the leaders?
Abigail W., Guilford, Conn.
A What happens is, if the pace car speed is 70, and you know where the leader is going to restart, you try to lay back a little and anticipate when the leader is going to restart. So if you have some space in front of you and can get in the gas just a little before the leader, you can actually be going faster than the leader when the race restarts and get a run on the people in front of you. Hope that makes sense, I even feel confused now!!!

Q When a driver or owner has to pay a fine, what does the money go to?
Robin Hendren, Upton, Ky.
A It used to go into the point fund, but this year they changed it and now it all goes to the NASCAR foundation.
