Q Tough break at Indy. What would you do differently if you where the CEO of Goodyear? What ideas do you have for NASCAR about tire testing? Thanks.

A I’m not a tire engineer, but after the tire test if I wasn't happy with result I would have built another tire and tested again. Or chose a tire to race that lasted more than 3 laps in test.

Q Matt how do you feel about returning to Pocono? It seems that you’ve run much better there in last few years. Lets put the 17 in Victory Lane there!
Ed Keating, Lake Ariel, Pa.
A The June Pocono race is the best we have ever performed there, so I’m looking forward to tomorrow. It is a track where I usually struggle.

Q

I was watching “NASCAR Confidential.” It was about Race Control. I was amazed at all the preparation. My question is how long does it take to load the equipment and car back onto the hauler, and get back to the shop, after a race?
Zack Gibbons, Naples, Fla.

A The loading process only takes about 30 minutes or so. They have it pretty organized and everything fits in trailer nicely. It depends where we are racing for how long it takes to get back to shop. The shop is in Concord, N.C.

Q Hey Matt good luck for the rest of the year. I saw your son race at Madison, and I was wondering if there was a size difference between his car and your Sprint Cup car. Also if there is, does it affect the speeds of the cars?
Stephanie Howell, Buffalo, N.Y.
A The cars are so different it is really hard to compare them. His car is shorter, and wider, and about 700 pounds lighter. That’s the biggest difference. His type of car also handles much better and would be faster at short tracks than a Cup car.

Q I was at Chicagoland and noticed that the flagman makes a lot of signals with his hands. Can you even see him when you’re at full speed? What do the other flags besides green, black, yellow, checkered mean? There was a blue one, etc.
Laura Bowles, Monona, Wis.
A Yeah we see them. Usually hand signals are just for one lap till green, he gives us 10 fingers for 10 laps left and 5 for 5 laps left. Blue flag is the move over flag. When you’re a lap down and the leader or lead lap car is approaching, they give you that one to get out of the way.
