Q |
Matt, what can a
driver do between seasons to improve their
ability? Football and baseball players hit the
gym, work on speed, run routes, etc... How do
you train?

A |
That’s a great
question. I think it’s a little different for
everyone. Our sport is way more mental then
physical, in my opinion. I try to take some time
for myself. I personally need some time to rest
from the hectic race and travel schedule, so
December is mostly spent doing that. When
January rolls around, we are wide open again
testing and preparing for season.

Q |
Hi Matt, I was
wondering if you get to use the dirt car used at
the Prelude at Eldora Speedway any other time of
the year?
Timothy Hicks, Englewood, Ohio |
|
A |
No, that was a one
shot deal. It was a team car of Tony’s that was
wrapped with DeWALT and Blain’s Farm and Fleet
colors. After the race, they tore it off and I
believe raced it at the Dream that weekend.

Q |
Hi Matt — I was wondering when you race at
tracks such as MIS, Slinger, etc — who do you
use for your pit crew? Is it some of the same
guys that are on your crew during regular NASCAR
races?
Janine Cronk, Henning, Minn. |
|
A |
No. I have a group of
guys in Wisconsin that own Pathfinder Chassis
in Sun Prairie. They prepare and crew my late
model as well as Ross’s.

Q |
Hi Matt! I see you
drink Gatorade after every race. Do sponsorships
like that end after the season or during the
season? I was wondering if I would see you drink
Coke all of a sudden, after a race. Thanks.
Mike Funni, Sandusky, Ohio |
|
A |
Ha, I hope not. First
of all, Gatorade works. They have a great
product to hydrate you before, and rehydrate you
after, the race. A soft drink is NOT what any
athlete wants after a workout or race. We have
done a lot of research about hydration and the
negative effects of dehydration along with
Gatorade. That’s why you see successful athletes
all around the world using their products.

Q |
Do you and your
teammates do any thing outside of the track?
David Ashby, Morganfeild, Ky. (Age 12) |
|
A |
Sometimes, if we have
common interests there will be times when we
spend some time together. Last week, Carl and I
were at an air show together. Greg, Jamie, and I
went skiing last winter together. When our
schedules align, we will hang out some.
