Q |
What single race
during your career are you most proud of?
Andrew Grigg, Hamden, Conn. |
Past Q&A

 |
|
A |
Our first Busch series
win at Rockingham in 1998 was the most exciting,
memorable race in my career. We weren’t expected
to win, or be that competitive, and we pulled it
off with last corner pass. It was cool to win
for the Reiser family team with no sponsor. It
was just a neat day.

Q |
Hi, Matt, who takes
care of your cats when you are on the road all
season? You have four now, correct?
Ann Sims, Miami, Fla. |
|
A |
A friend of ours comes
over twice a day to feed and check on them.
Lately they are low maintenance. Yes, there are
four of them running around here now!

Lars and Charlotte welcome Sulley and Miley into
the family.

Q |
On pit stops, the tire changers run around the
car to the right side first. Wouldn’t it be
faster to change the left sides next to the wall
first and then do the right sides, could save a
few seconds? Want to see you win soon and any
advantage helps, go Matt and go Ford!
Dan Kane, Orlando, Fla. |
|
A |
No, it’s faster to do
right sides first, You have to have the tires,
air hoses, and guns on the left side of car
before you leave, so if you did left sides first
you would still have to run back to left side
before the car could leave. Also, doing left
side last helps to get the car completely full
of fuel since the left side is jacked up last.
Thanks for the idea! We have actually tried it
that way a few times in road course practice
because we come down pit road the opposite
direction. So at Watkins Glen we change left
sides first, but it’s still the outside of the
car.

Q |
I was wondering
what your pre-race routine was the day of the
race?
Matt Miller, Destin, Fla. |
|
A |
I don’t really have a
pre-race routine. I do whatever appearances or
hospitalities I have scheduled for the day,
attend the drivers’ meeting and chapel, and get
something to eat. That’s about it.

Q |
Hey Matt, Seeing
how weather was a factor at Pocono… I was
wondering if all the Cup teams use the same
weather prediction services, or does each
organization have a specialist they can turn to
when needed? Thanks… you guys looked awesome at
Pocono!
James Adams, Port Reading, N.J. |
|
A |
Not that I know of.
Chip and the engineering department will just be
on the Internet looking at the radar. I’m not
sure what site they use. I wish we had a service
we could blame it on!
