Q |
I know that many
drivers like to participate in charity events,
or stuff like Make A Wish. What’s the most fun
you’ve ever had at a charity event?
Lacy Hill, Moses Lake, Wash. |
Past Q&A

 |
|
A |
The most fun is
probably at Tony Stewart’s Prelude to the Dream
that we run every year at the Eldora dirt track.
It’s a great time racing those cars, and a lot
of drivers and fans come out to raise money for
Victory Junction.

Q |
Matt, after a race
is over what do you normally do? Do you go home
or stay in your RV? If you win the race is there
an after-race party? What does a Cup driver do
after a race?
Stephen Slipher, Santa Clarita
Calif. |
|
A |
I haven’t won a race for so long I have no
idea!!!! We usually race to the airport and head
home.
If you’re lucky enough to win there is
usually a fair amount of time spent afterwards
doing media, etc., but you usually don’t stay
and have a party unless you win at Charlotte.
The rest of the race team has to fly back to the
shop and get going on next race.

Q |
When you first started out racing at Slinger and
around, was it really hard for you to afford to
do the sport or did your sponsors help out a lot
with that?
Derrick Robenhorst, Hartford,
Wis. |
|
A |
My dad was my biggest
sponsor! There were people who helped out, but
90 per cent of it came out of our pockets. My
dad helped a lot, but I was fortunate to meet
people like Fred Nielsen, Mike Butz, Gerry
Gunderman, Carl Wegner — people who let me drive
their cars. Dad and I couldn’t really afford to
do it all by our selves.

What goes through
your mind when you’re in a big crash?
Sam Allen, Maryland |
|
A |
This is a G-rated
website.

Q |
It looks like some
of your recent spin-outs are similar to the ones
I used to do (accidentally) on snowy roads up
north. Do they feel the same? Mine were MUCH
slower!
Lori D, Sierra Vista, Ariz. |
|
A |
No, unfortunately they
don’t feel the same at all. It’s hard to explain
what they feel like, but they happen pretty fast
and hit pretty hard going that fast.
