Q |
I’ve noticed at
some times there is no window on the right side
of the car, and others there is. What determines
this? I thought they were mandatory.
Gaeton Collier, Carmel Valley,
Calif. |
Past Q&A

 |
|
A |
You only have to run
right side windows at racetracks 1.5 miles or
larger that aren’t road courses. It’s basically
a safety thing. If the car spins out at a high
rate of speed, this keeps the air out of the
inside of car and hopefully keeps the car on the
ground.

Q |
Outside of
Homestead in ’06, have you ever set the track on
fire after a burnout?
Clif McPherson, Springfield,
Va. |
|
A |
No, but I sure would like another chance to
try!!!!
Here’s a YouTube video of
the burnout.

Q |
Matt, as in other sports, do you watch film for
upcoming races to see how other guys drive?
Also, being from Wisconsin, do you follow the
Badgers in football or basketball? Do you have
time on Saturdays to catch a game or two?
Steve Kieler, Racine, Wis. |
|
A |
I don’t watch much
film. If there is strategy involved, or a wreck,
or something that I want to see, I will watch.
But other than that, not much. I’ve never really
watched college sports, but I catch all the
Packer games!

Q |
I was just
wondering with the off season coming up, and
winter just around the corner, are you going to
ride much snowmobile this year, and where do you
do the most riding?
Dustin Arttus, Sparta, Wis. |
|
A |
Whenever I’m in
Wisconsin and there is snow, I ride! If there’s
snow in southern Wisconsin, where I grew up, we
will ride there. If not we will drive north. The
last couple of years we snowmobiled in the
Tomahawk area.

Q |
Matt, what are the
major differences between the C.O.T. & the car
of yesteryear?
Scott Sears, Eastlake, Ohio |
|
A |
There are a lot of
differences, the main thing being the body. The
new car has much less downforce and we aren’t
really allowed to work on the body. NASCAR has a
lot of templates and is very strict on the rules
to keep all the new cars as close to the same as
possible. Also in the old cars, we could travel
them much farther. The new car has the splitter
in the front, which is really low, so we can
only travel the front end of the cars a small
amount.
