Q |
Matt, now that the
season is over, what is the first thing you plan
to do? Are there local races you participate in
during the off-season?

Past Q&A

 |
|
A |
I don’t really have
much of a plan. We are going to Wisconsin for
the holidays to spend some time with family and
friends. No local races, it’s the off-season for
them too.

Q |
Why didn’t you get a splash of gas at Homestead
and finish in the top 10 (points-wise)? Did you
really think you would make it?
Leesa Hill,
Louisville, Ky. |
|
A |
That’s a great question. I don’t really know,
other than we were going for the win. It was our
only shot at win. Carl has been getting better
gas mileage and we knew he wasn’t going to stop.
No, I didn’t think we would make it, but they
have the information in pits, I only know what
they tell me.

Q |
I go to the Michigan race every year and really
want a night race there. What are your thoughts
on that?
Cheryl Rogers,
Essexville, Mich. |
|
A |
It would be fun, but
lights are real expensive and Michigan is one of
the great tracks to race at during day. The
weather is usually pleasant, there’s no glare
from setting sun, etc.

Q |
Now that you can
hop in your plane and fly to almost anywhere in
North America, do you and Katie still take
motorcycle trips?
Matt Graves, Fort Worth, Texas |
|
A |
Not as much. I got to
do a couple trips this year. Katie doesn’t ride
as much as we used to, but will occasionally go
for some rides that aren’t real long.

Q |
We are wondering
how the race winnings are divided up. There are
so many members on a racing team — owner,
driver, crew chief, pit crew, etc. Who decides
who gets what?
Audrey Ricard, South Milwaukee, Wis. |
|
A |
I don’t know how every
team has it structured. Drivers usually get some
percentage of race winnings and a salary. Crew
guys get salary, extra money for going on road,
extra money for going over wall, and usually
there is bonus money that comes out of race
winnings and souvenir sales.
