Jeff Gordon kept saying on the radio at
California that the 17 crew was killing them on
the pit stops. Do the Killer Bees practice much
during the off season?

Hi Matt, or I should say Mr.
Daytona 500 Champion. First I would like to say
great job on winning two in a row!!! I was
wondering if it was hard to lift the Daytona 500
trophy because in the pre-race stuff they said
it weighed 54 pounds?
Alex Geiger,
Woodburn, Ind. |
|
A |
Well the main thing is that it was wet and I
didn’t want to drop it!!! If I can’t lift 54
pounds I need to get the gym more often...

Q |
When you say “spongy” and “grippier” what do you
mean by that? I couldn’t find them in my NASCAR
terminology handbook.
Jackie
Tobritzhofer, Inver Grove Heights, Minn. |

A |
I was wondering the same thing when I watched
the California broadcast! I don’t know what
spongy would mean either and I don’t recall ever
saying that. It might be the Wisconsin accent
they can’t quite understand on the scanner.

Hi Matt, congrats on your win at Daytona. Do you
stay overnight at the track or do you fly home
right after the race.
Ed Adamowski,
Ansonia, Conn. |
|
A |
Daytona is unique. We stayed and inducted the
car into the Daytona 500 Experience and did all
kinds of media. Most other races we fly home
afterwards. If it’s a night race and its on the
west coast, sometimes we will spend the night.

Hi Matt, I have the NASCAR Pets calendar and see
that you now have four cats. Why did you decide
to get more kittens, and do you have any cute
stories about them?
Kristy Stille, Papillion, Neb. |
|
A |
The
plan was to get one kitten, and when I went to
the barn to pick her up I felt bad taking her
away from her family, so I decided to take her
sister as well so she had someone to hang with!
It’s harder for Lars to beat them up also when
there is two of them!
