Q |
What did it feel like to tumble across the track
at Talladega? Any injuries?

2009 Q&A

. . . . . . . .

 |
|
A |
It
really wasn’t that bad, and it wasn’t that fun! I really was very thankful it
landed right side up, those cars are very small inside and would be very
difficult to get out of one if it was on its roof. So as I was mid air I was
praying that it ended up on its wheels, and it did. No injuries, just mad!

Q |
I don’t remember you ever rolling a car before.
Have you? Also, are you a little gun shy when
getting into the car again after an accident
like the Talladega crash?
Annette
DeChamps, Denmark, Wis. |
|
A |
Just once at Slinger I ended up on my roof, but
it was a very easy slow roll over. No, I’m not
gun shy at all, it’s a part of racing that’s
always there and you know it can happen at any
time.

Q |
Why do you and your team change hat and coat
design every season? I like all of them, but I’m
just wondering.
Alyson Blow,
Maurertown, Va. |
|
A |
That’s a good question. The fans’ uniform jacket
changes to reflect my uniform. As sponsors
change logos, associate sponsors change, etc.,
the uniform changes. They change the look of the
car, hats, etc., just to keep it fresh and
different. The colors and basic design have been
the same for years and will be yellow and black
as long as DeWALT is around.

Q |
[Do you] have any sponsors signed for next
season? How involved are you in the process of
signing sponsors?
Andrew Grigg,
Storrs, Conn. |
|
A |
I don’t know, I’m not involved in that part of
the program very much. I let the marketing
department worry about signing sponsors and
raising money to run the car, and I worry about
the performance. Lately that’s been enough to
worry about!!

Q |
Where does your pit crew stay at during a race
weekend? I know you stay in your motor home at
the track.
Kevin Bassetti, Hampton, Ark. |
|
A |
The
eight guys who come to track for entire weekend
stay at local hotels. The guys who crew the car
on race day fly in that morning and fly home
after race.
