Q |
So what do you do at a tire test at
Indianapolis? Is it like practice? Or is there
something more to it? And what do you bring back
to Roush about the test to help the team at
Indy?

2009 Q&A

. . . . . . . .

 |
|
A |
It is kind of like practice. Goodyear usually gives us a couple hours to work on
our car to get it handling like we would want it to. Then they just keep putting
tires on our car and have us run laps so they can look at data and tire
temperature and wear. We get to look at the data as well, and we get the
practice on the track, so although we practice on some tires we won’t race, it
still should help us when we come back.

Q |
I was listening to the Bob & Brian podcast and
you
were talking about Carl’s wreck at Talladega.
You were talking about the COT car having a wing
& a wicker… I’m wondering what a wicker is?
Kristy Stille,
Omaha, Neb. |
|
A |
The wing is on the back of the car, and when the
car is pointed forward it makes downforce to
hold the car to the track. On the back of the
wing at speedways it has about a ¾" wicker,
which is basically a straight piece of carbon
fiber that sticks straight up. This makes drag
to keep the cars running a little slower and
keeps them bunched up, and it also disrupts the
air if the car gets backwards to hopefully help
keep it on the ground.

Q |
Hi Matt, I read in NASCAR Scene magazine
that Jack Roush gave you the car that you rolled
at Talladega. Are you really getting it and are
you going to have it on display in Cambridge?
Thanks.
Dawn Schwefel,
Watertown, Wis. |
|
A |
Yes, I am going to get it and when I do it will
go straight to Cambridge for the fans to check
out.

Q |
At Richmond is it better to be at the first,
middle, or last pit stall?
Maddie Dounyar, Serverna Park, Md. |
|
A |
It
all depends who is pitted around you, how many
cars are on the lead lap, where you are running
on the track, etc., but the overall consensus at
almost every track is Pit 1 is the best. I like
pits on the straightaway about halfway down pit
road with an opening.
