2009 Q&A

. . . . . . . .

|
A |
Not as much as I look forward to going to
Michigan or Dover! Its a challenge, I just wish I was better at it, I look
forward to the challenge, but are usually relieved when its over.

Q |
When you have three practice sessions, how do
you approach each one? Do you look for balance
first, then feel or possibly speed?
Richard
Chambers, Downey, Calif. |
|
A |
On Fridays, we usually start off with a baseline
race setup to see what car is driving like, then
we switch to a qualifying setup to get ready for
qualifying. Saturday we work on our race setup
all day and try to find something that I like
the feel and balance of and which also has
decent speed. More times than not if we get it
where I like how it drives it has plenty of
speed.

Q |
Since any of the other teams can listen to your
radio traffic, do you guys use pre-determined
phrases or code words to keep the other teams
from knowing what changes you’re going to do to
the car?
Mike Dory, Brush,
Colo. |
|
A |
During the race we discuss some changes, but in
practice we actually have a private digital
radio that nobody else can listen to. We use it
to talk about specific things we wouldn’t want
other teams to hear.

Can you explain to me a little on how the
communications work during the race? Is there a
“talk” button on the steering wheel, or does
your mic over ride the spotter and crew chief?

|
A |
Yes
there is a push to talk button on my steering
wheel.
