Q

Dear Matt, I am a huge fan. I was just wondering what do you think is the hardest part of NASCAR?

A The hardest part is being consistently competitive. The competition is just so tough it is really hard to run well each and every week. At least for us it has been.

Q Matt, I am sure you are disappointed about not making the Chase, but your loyal fans like myself will keep cheering you on. Will you approach the remaining races of the season any differently?
Sally Bolis, Coloma, Mich.
A I don’t think we will approach anything differently; it is still about being competitive and trying to win races. We need to work hard to make the 17 team back into a championship team. We always examine all aspects of the program and try to make them stronger.

Q

Since the 17 won’t be part of the Chase, will you lobby to be one of the first cars to run the new Ford engine? I think a lot of us are excited to see how it performs.
Erik Magnus, Pinckney, Mich.

A I am excited to run one, I know they weren't planning on us running one, but I will probably make some calls and try to run it at Talladaga. They are pretty excited about restrictor plate package and they think it will perform well.

Q Hi Matt, What do you think of Petty switching to Ford for 2010?
Zoran Tomas, Milwaukee, Wis.
A I think it’s an interesting move. It will be good for us and for all the Ford teams to add some quality teams to its stable. Just another part of NASCAR teams consolidating. Seems like everyone is going to have 4 to 8 teams they work with and share info with. I think it’s good from a business perspective, but takes some of the team-to-team competitiveness out of it.

Q Have you ever broken any bones in your body? If so, how did you break them?
Karen Elden, Big Lake, Minn.
A Not really. I crushed the very end of my finger once working on a race car. Not very exciting, I know! I really don’t want to break any bones either!!!
