Q |
Who was your biggest racing idol when you were a
child?
Matt Holschuh,
Fond du Lac, Wis. |
2009 Q&A

. . . . . . . .

 |
|
A |
As a young child, it’s hard to say — probably my
uncles that I watched race at Jefferson Speedway every Saturday. When I started
watching NASCAR racing on TV, I would say Dale Earnhardt was my hero.

Q |
What do you do to keep your concentration while
driving for 500 miles? I’m sure it’s tough
keeping your mind from wandering for such a long
time. Also, do you still get the same “rush”
every time you get into your car and fire it up
after all these years, or has it just become a
job?
Kirk
Vermillion, West Bend, Wis. |
|
A |
There is usually more going on than it probably
looks like and there’s not a lot of time for
your mind to wander. I am constantly thinking
about how we can get the best possible finish at
the end of the day. It’s different than when I
first started, but it is still quite a thrill to
start the engine on Sunday and get ready to race
with the best.

Q |
We noticed at Watkins Glen and a few other
times
there is what looks
like a cardboard cutout of a DEWALT tool that is
placed right in front of the windshield while
your car is in the garage and on pit road. What
is for and is there a purpose to it?
Gina David,
Clifton Springs, N.Y. |
|
A |
There is a little plate that we use to cover the
cowl opening, to keep trash out of the air
intake area, and we just put a little DeWALT
tool on there so we won’t forget to remove it
before the car rolls off. We thought it looked
cool!

Q |
I heard you are a Harley man. What do you ride?
Jeff Ryan, Alamogordo, N.M. |
|
A |
I have been enjoying my V-Rod Muscle lately. We
still have nice weather here and I was riding it
just yesterday. I also have a bagger that I ride
on long trips.

Q |
What is the biggest sacrifice you must make as a
driver?
Ambur Fadoir, Torrington, Conn. |
|
A |
We have it good; I have no complaints. The only
thing that is tough is we travel every weekend,
so it’s hard to have friends outside of the
sport, since most people work during the week
and not the weekends like us, and it makes it
hard to spend as much time with your family as I
would like.
