Hey Matt, First I want to congratulate you on a
GREAT finish at the Daytona 500. My question is,
how did the pothole in the track hurt you before
they patched it? If they repaved the track,
would it help or hurt the track? Good luck this
weekend Matt and rest of the season, you are #1.

Thank you. It hurt us a little bit because a
piece of asphalt or the patch got ripped up and went through the front of our
car. It put a basketball-sized hole in the nose and tore off a splitter brace so
we had to spend a lot of time in the pits fixing it and lost what little track
position we had. I like the old pavement, it really makes the cars have to
handle and, to me, makes the race much more interesting. If they pave it, we
will run wide open all day and it will turn into a race similar to Talladega
where handling isn’t an issue.

I was sorry not to see any interviews with you
during the long red flags at Daytona. Did you
prefer not to be interviewed, or did they just
not get to you in time?
Jim Wayne,

I don’t know why we didn’t get interviewed.
Usually they come looking for you, or your PR
person lines one up. I was hanging in our pit
with my team the whole time.

For days like the Daytona 500 media day when you
are in front of the camera and not driving all
day, do you wear your actual fire suit, or do
you have one for casual wear when you’re not in
the car?
DeDe Truhler,

All the firesuits I have are real and will be
race used. I go through 7 to 10 of them a year
usually.

When we finished our basement a few years ago we
painted it yellow with a big “17” on the wall.
Now that you’ve got a new sponsor would you
consider me a true fan if I choose to leave the
walls yellow? I hate painting.
Bill Eberle,
Omro, Wis. |

Ha, that’s awesome!!! I think if the 17 is there
you are good! A purple basement would definitely
be different.

I was just watching the movie “The Dukes of
Hazzard.” Did you play a flagman/extra in this
movie?? I saw the 17/Carhartt hat, the sideburns
and I’m pretty sure it you?? Was it??
John Lord, East Troy, Wis. |
 |
No it wasn’t me. I noticed someone in a Carhartt
hat in the movie as well, but it wasn’t me.
