Obviously, the last right-side tires you put on
in your last stop in the Coca-Cola 600 didn’t
work well. Have you found out what was wrong
with them to change the handling so much? Also,
does your engine not have good low-end torque,
or is it a gear ratio issue that is causing the
not-so-great restarts?

They couldn’t find anything different or “wrong” with the
last two tires. I wish we could have found something so it
wouldn’t seem like such a gamble at the end of the race. We
really struggled on restarts Saturday night. We are working
on the problem and trying to get better. It’s really a
combination of things.

I was watching a night race and every once in a
while I would see sparks under the tires when
someone would take off from a pit stop. I’m
assuming these are lug-nuts and I was wondering
if your car ever got hit by one?
Brian Vixmer,
Fond du Lac, Wis. |
 |
Not that I know of. I’m sure it’s happened at
times and I didn’t notice, but I have heard
stories of crew members getting hit by them.

Hey
Matt, are you going to run the original purple
and yellow Crown Royal scheme any more this
year? Or are you going to stick with the Crown
Royal Black scheme?
Sean McKain, Pittsburgh, Pa. |
 |
We
will be running both. The next time we run the
purple car is Indy. Everyone liked the black
scheme so well that Crown Royal has
decided to run it more races this year.
Note: You can see Matt’s 2010 schedule,
including which paint scheme will be run at
which race, on our
Races & Results
page.
