- Matt had some mechanical problems
today and finished 36th after going to the garage on lap 51 with
clutch problems.
- He also experienced rear end
problems around lap 26 and was black flagged by NASCAR for a
possible differential leak.
- Otherwise he ran a great race and
picked up some valuable experience in road course racing.

- Matt’s first time on a road
course has netted him an 18th place starting position for tomorrows race.

- Matt will be featured on “Inside
Nascar” July 5th and 6th on TNN.

25, 1997
- The next race is the
Lysol
200 at Watkins
Glen International Speedway.
- Qualifying begins Saturday June
28th at 1:45 Central and the race is Sunday at Noon, live on
TNN.
- This is Matt’s very first
road course race and he is looking forward to it after getting some advice
from Mark Martin.

20, 1997
- Matt practiced at Michigan
International Speedway with his backup super speedway car. He
was the fastest in a field including, Todd Bodine, Steve Park,
Randy LaJoie, Tim Fedewa and others. Matt will be racing at
Michigan on August 16th.

Matt’s cousin, Steve
Kenseth, won his first feature of 1997 at Madison
International Speedway. Paul Kisow, also of Cambridge, won his second feature of 97 in
the Sportsmans division. Congrats guys!!

- An
article about Matt’s mixed emotions
at South Boston, he’s happy for the 6th place finish, but he wanted a
win.

13, 1997
- Matt had a great race tonight,
just missing out on a top five finish.
- Matt had worked his way to the
front and was spun out by the number 85 car of Shane Hall.
Despite body damage to the front and rear, he quickly moved from
the rear of the field to finish 6th.
- Note: Matt led 7 laps and was
entitled to the Raybestos Rookie of the Race Award.

Motorsports 300!

- The next Busch race is at the
South
Boston Speedway in Virginia on Friday June 13th. The race
starts at 7:00 Central and will be televised live on TNN.
- There will be 300 laps of racing
on the 4/10 mile oval. Matt tested here after Dover and turned
some very fast times.

- Matt Kenseth will be racing at the
Slinger Speedway
for round 1 of The Miller Lite Nationals on June 9th and 10th.

- NASCAR Winston Cup’s Most
Popular Driver, Bill Elliott, will make his first ever visit to the
Slinger Super Speedway, Tuesday night, June 10th, during the 17th Annual
Miller Lite Nationals. Elliott will be available for autographs and will
take over duties as the “official starter” for the Twin 100 lap
features.
Wisconsin natives Dick Trickle, Richie Bickle, Bryan Reffner and Matt
Kenseth, who are all currently competing in NASCAR, will join Butch
Miller, Scott Hansen and ASA driver Mike Garvey as they battle the best
drivers in the Midwest on June 9th & 10th. Monday’s events get
started at 6:30pm with time trials, followed by qualifying races,
autograph session and support division racing with the Slinger Stinger
Street Stocks. Admission for Monday is FREE with the purchase of an
advance ticket for Tuesday, prior to the Sunday night deadline. There will
also be a party in the pit area after racing, featuring a chance to talk
with the drivers, live music and refreshments.
Festivities for Tuesday evening begin with spectator gates and race day
ticket windows opening at 4:00pm and racing at 7:30pm. The night will get
underway with a “last chance” qualifying race, semi-feature and NASCAR
vs. Midwest Dash, along with another autograph session. The main event
will be the Twin 100 lap features that make up the first leg of the
premier short track series on the World’s Fastest 1/4 Mile Oval.
Tickets are on sale at the Slinger track office and Pioneer Plaza, Hwy’s
41 & 45 in Richfield, or can be charged by phone at 414-644-5921 or
toll free at 888-419-5900. Fans can save a total of $24.00 when they buy
tickets for both round 1 and the July 7th & 8th Championship Round on
or before Sunday night, June 8th.
