Matt Kenseth tested
at Charlotte
Motor Speedway on Tuesday and was 3rd
fastest overall out of 41 cars. This is great news as Matt
has had to run in the last chance hooligan race the last 3 times
he has been at Charlotte.

The Busch series has
off this weekend and will be at New Hampshire on May 9th. Matt

Matt Kenseth and the
#17 Lycos Team placed
8th on Saturday. There were 7 cautions that removed most of
the field from the speedway, including several of the points
leaders. Matt drove through an early wreck with cars flying all
around him, never being touched. A later wreck that happened in
front of him took teammate Mark Martin out of the race and left
Matt with a damaged right rear fender, broken shock mount and
trailer arm. The team worked quickly to get Matt back out on the
track and kept him on the lead lap. Despite the damage, Matt
kept his right foot on the floor and managed to stay pretty
close to the leaders. The Lycos in-car camera had some great
views of the spinning cars and smoke filled wrecks.
-
Matt regains the
points lead in the Busch series, having a 26-point lead over Mike McLaughlin. This is the 5th consecutive
top 10 finish, congrats Matt and team!!!
-
Matt was faster in
second round qualifying, but not enough to get the #60 Cup car
into the top 36. Overall it was a bad weekend for Roush as blown
engines and poor qualifying kept all 5 out of the top 20.

One word describes Matt’s first round qualifying attempt for Sundays race,
Slow..... The Roush cars have been struggling in qualifying at
the plate tracks and a lot of work needs to be done to the #60 Peterbilt
car if they have hopes of making the race.

It wasn’t the 10
yellow cautions or the grease left on the racing surface, it
wasn’t even a blown fuse somewhere in the Hickory power grid
that kept Matt out of the winners circle. It was a busted
shifter that left Matt stranded in 4th gear. The Lycos
Chevrolet stayed out of trouble all day, avoiding many wrecks
that left most of the point leaders scrambling for hammers and
duct tape. Matt was running in 2nd and chasing down the leader
Ed barrier when the last caution of the race came out on lap
280. Stuck in 4th gear on the restart, Matt was quickly passed
with all hopes for a win gone. He did finish
a strong 5th and moves up to 2nd in the point standings, 31
behind Earnhardt Jr.
-
“That yellow just
killed us,” said Kenseth, who now
trails Earnhardt Jr. by 31 points for the series lead. “We
had the race won. We made up a straightaway on (Berrier) in 10 laps. We were just riding around all day,
not wrecking and waiting for the finish.”

Matt has
qualified
14th for the Galaxy
Foods 300 to be run tomorrow afternoon. Matt’s practice
times were 11th
fastest in morning practice. There will be 31 cars in the
field, 24 based on time and 7 provisionals. Since there will be
no way to pit all 31 cars due to the size of the track, there
will be mandatory stops on laps 100 and 200 for tires and fuel.
This track is known as a wreck fest and there will be lapped
cars very early in the race.

televised live on TNN.

Matt will be driving
the #60 Roush Racing Winston Cup car at Talladega on April 26th.

will be testing the #17 Lycos
Busch car and a Cup car at Talladega next week. Nascar.com.

Despite starting
back in 24th place, Matt was able to quickly move the #17 Lycos
Chevrolet through the field to a 8th
place finish. It looked like Matt was destined for another
top 5 finish late in the race as most of the leaders, including
Matt, were taking green flag pit stops. A caution around lap 180
gave many of the cars on the tail end of the lead lap a break,
putting most of the leaders who had just pitted a lap down. Matt
was able to get his lap back after another wreck on the
re-start, with just 8 laps to go.
-
It was a great day
for Lycos, The #17 had an
in-car camera for the first time and there were several Lycos
commercials during the race. Matt had a camera over his right
shoulder and one on the rear bumper that caught a few nice
wrecks.
-
Matt remains in the
championship hunt, presently in 4th place, 54 points behind
Earnhardt Jr. The Lycos crew
continues to have excellent pit stops, giving Matt very valuable
track position.

Wednesday April
1st 1998 — Happy April Fools Day!!
In a
surprising
move,
Matt Kenseth has announced that he will be taking over driving
duties in the Ford BIGFOOT
Monster Truck. Matt will attempt to crush all the Busch cars
that failed to finish at last weeks Bristol race in a special
event at Texas Motor Speedway. “I feel like I have been
going in circles my whole life and have finally decided to take
on some bigger challenges” Matt will be busy working with
the monster truck crew this week, finding a setup that will work
well on Texas Motor Speedways 8 degree banked frontstretch.
