Parts Failure Ends Day for Kenseth at Talladega

June 22, 2020

Talladega Superspeedway (Talladega, Ala.)

Distance: 500 miles

Start: 13th | Finish: 40th

Points: 1 | Standings: 30th

Details of the Day

  • Kenseth was forced to pit while running seventh under green around Lap 127 for what he thought was a tire issue; after pitting the team realized the problem was bigger and Kenseth was forced to the garage to assess the issue

  • The 42 team determined Kenseth’s issue was likely the result of a wheel bearing giving out, which forced and early exit from the race on Lap 127

  • The race was delayed for about an hour due to rain

  • The caution flag was shown eight times for a total of 33 laps

  • The lead changed 56 times among nine drivers

Chad Johnston, Crew Chief, No. 42 McDonald's McDelivery Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE

“We had done a good job today staying out of trouble and keeping the car in a position to be there late in the race, but unfortunately we had what looked like an issue with a wheel bearings that forced an early exit. After working our plan for most of the race, it’s frustrating to have an issue like that take us out. We’ll have two shots next weekend in Pocono to get better finishes, so we’ll look ahead to those races."
